The Whirlpool Corporation is a Fortune 500 company and a major manufacturer and a global marketer of household appliances. It has over 70 different manufacturing and technology research centers in the United States and around the world. Its current headquarters is in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

Although known for their top-loading washers and other laundry equipment, Whirlpool, with its acquisition of the Maytag Corporation in March 2006, became the single largest home appliance manufacturer in the world. The company now markets a wide array of consumer appliances, including refrigerators, under several brand names such as Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Gladiator Garage Works, Inglis, Estate, Brastemp, Bauknecht, and Consul, with worldwide sales reaching approximately $19 billion per year.

Whirlpool Refrigerator Key features

The Whirlpool refrigerator line offers models in many colors, styles, and, for an additional fee, easy care Whirlpool® Satina™ finishes. Refrigerator exteriors usually come in almond, biscuit, black, and stainless steel. The Satina™ finish minimizes fingerprint smudges and makes the unit easy to clean with a regular window cleaner.

Free standing and counter-depth refrigerators are available. Free-standing refrigerators require more space and can store bulkier items, while counter-depth refrigerators are top-of-the-line models with shallow profiles designed to fit seamlessly into recessed counter modules.

Depending on the model, Whirlpool fridge doors are either contoured or flat. Doors usually have rounded edges to help prevent finger pinches when the door is opened. Whirlpool also offers optional custom trim kits to give free-standing models a built-in look.

Door-mounted ice and water dispensers generally come standard on side-by-side models. Models with this In-Door-Ice® Ice Dispensing System moves the detachable ice bin from inside the freezer compartment to the door, effectively freeing more storage room for frozen produce.

Also, with the Fast Fill Dispensing System, customers will be able to fill any size container twice as fast as their previous dispensers. The system utilizes a high-flow water valve to deliver accurately measured, chilled, and filtered water in half the time. A rotating faucet and slide-out tray makes it easy to handle containers from small glasses to big pots.

Wide adjustable glass shelves maximize storage space for most of the models while slide-out glass shelves make it easier to place food into the whole shelf. Whirlpool provides refrigerators with innovative shelving options, door panel storage that can handle tall containers and two to four easy access storage bins. Whirlpool also carries refrigerators with a variety of freezer storage capacities.

Since the refrigerator accounts for as much as 12 to 20 percent of annual total power consumption of an average household, Whirlpool offers a number of Energy Star® qualified refrigerators that use up to 30% less electricity and feature more efficient compressors and motors compared to models manufactured 10 years ago.

Some models include an adaptive defrost control and temperature-controlled binds to regulate temperatures in small spaces within the fridge without lowering the temperature of the entire interior. Double tub construction and added insulation maintains the cool temperature of the interior refrigerator cabinet.

The brand covers their refrigerator units for parts and services needed to correct manufacturing defects for up to a year after the original purchase date. An extended warranty service, called the Whirlpool Service Plan, offers 1, 2, or 3 years of protection from unexpected repair bills and is available to customers for an additional fee.

Whirlpool Refrigerator Product types available

The refrigerator is one of the quintessential household appliances and many general issues must be considered before buying one. These issues include the budget, the amount of available kitchen space, the nature and amount of stored goods, access to water sources (for models with icemakers), availability of electrical sockets, and design preferences.

Since maintenance problems and costs increase proportionally with each year of use, additional considerations for energy efficiency, ease of maintenance, extended warranties, and customer service must also be addressed.

There are many different Whirlpool refrigerator models that can cater to the customer’s specific needs. These models include side-by-side, French door, freezer-on-bottom, and freezer-on-top refrigerators.

Side by Side Refrigerators

Side-by-side refrigerators have twin doors for easy access to fridge contents in tight kitchen areas. All Whirlpool models in this line are Energy Star® qualified and offer total storage capacities ranging from 22 to 25 cubic feet.

French Door Refrigerators

Whirlpool French door refrigerators offer a more sophisticated and elegant appearance than other models. This style premium also factors into the unit price, as this line is the most expensive Whirlpool has to offer. It combines the narrow space requirement of the side-by-side and the greater fresh food storage capacities of the bottom-freezer models.

The brand currently has 5 Energy Star® qualified models in the selection, with either 20 or 25 cubic feet of total storage capacity.

Fridge with Bottom Freezer

Bottom-freezer models place fresh food at eye level and allow greater storage spaces for fresh produce. Consumers can choose among 6 affordable Energy Star® models, with either 19 or 22 cubic feet of total capacity.

Traditional

Traditional freezer-on-top systems place frozen goods at eye level and are usually among the most affordable. Whirlpool models have capacities ranging from 10 to 22 cubic feet and most are Energy Star® qualified.

Whirlpool Fridge Freezer Buying Information

Whirlpool offers a limited 1-year warranty from the original date of purchase, for parts and labor to correct defects in materials or workmanship. The warranty does not cover “damage resulting from accident, alteration, misuse, abuse, fire, flood, acts of God, improper installation, installation not in accordance with electrical or plumbing codes, or use of products not approved by Whirlpool” and replacement parts or repair labor costs for units operated outside the United States or Canada. Light bulbs, air filters, and water filters are also not covered by the warranty.

Consumer complaints concerning Whirlpool refrigerators center on interior cabinet and liner cracks, faulty icemakers that break and flood kitchens and compressor relay problems that pose a major fire hazard. Compressor relay ignitions related to Whirlpool’s Maytag brand caused the major recall of about 1.6 million Maytag refrigerator units in March 2009.

Another voluntary Whirlpool product recall involved its single-door 20 cubic feet frost-free freezers and its 17 cubic feet refrigerators in 2005. The recall was instigated after the finding that the end cap of the defrost heater tube can dislodge in some units, resulting in a potential shock and fire hazard.

Maytag started as a manufacturer of farm equipment before branching out to household appliances in 1907. The brand later became synonymous with dependable washing machines but because, with the company’s acquisition of the Amana brand, they were also able to offer a full line of refrigerators.

By the year 2001, Maytag was carrying a vast selection of household appliances, including washing machines, dryers, vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, cooktops, ranges, and refrigerators, and was marketing these under several brand names: Maytag, Hoover, Jenn-Air, Amana, Dixie-Narco, and Jade.

The now defunct Maytag Corporation was among the top 3 major appliance companies in the North American market when it subjected to a take-over battle among three companies in 2005. The battle ended with Maytag’s acquisition by the Whirlpool Corporation in 2006.

Although Whirlpool decided to close down the Maytag headquarters office in Newton, Iowa, as well as a number of its manufacturing plants, the Maytag brand is still currently used on re-branded Whirlpool appliances.

Maytag Refrigerator Key features

Maytag refrigerators boast of their Built-To-Last™ features that include Foam-To-The-Floor construction, Strongbox™ hinge design, easy-rolls wheels, and radius doors. Foam-To-The-Floor construction provides greater insulation and prevents cold air from escaping the fridge interior, while its Strongbox™ hinge design ensures durability. Easy-roll wheels improve handling and radius doors allow maximum access to refrigerator contents without the need for additional space.

Most models are free standing units, but counter-depth refrigerators that have a shallow profile are also available. Counter-depth units are designed to fit flush with kitchen counter modules for a built-in look. Refrigerators are available in white, black, biscuit, or stainless steel finish, and have either contoured or flat doors.

Contoured doors hide hinges while flat doors give the unit a more traditional look. Some models can also accept optional handle accents and custom panels or “trim kits” to match existing kitchen cabinetry.

Adjustable tempered-glass shelves come standard in Maytag refrigerators, and almost all models have smart shelving solutions including Elevator Shelves™ and Beverage Chiller compartments.

Elevator Shelves™ are shelves that roll up and down smoothly, even when loaded with food, to accommodate tall items like wine bottles and pitchers, while Beverage Chiller compartments can hold small cans and even two-gallon containers and keep them up to 4° degrees colder than the rest of the fridge interior.

Spill-Catcher™ shelves, which are sealed around the edges to contain liquids for quick and easy clean up, are also available. Maytag also offers FreshLock Crispers with humidity control. This sealed crisper is ideal for storing fruits and vegetables because its adjustable humidity settings keep fresh produce longer. Both come standard with bottom-freezer refrigerators.

Newer models have electronic cooling systems with upfront electronic touch pad controls, digital read-out displays and multiple temperature sensors. This system allows independent temperature adjustment in the fresh food and freezer compartments.

Models with external icemakers and water dispensers are sold with PuriClean® retractable water filters. This filter system removes water impurities while retaining fluoride. Other models have Maytag’s Quiet Plus sound silencing system. This system reduces refrigerator sounds and noises by up to 47 decibels.

The complete line of Maytag refrigerators is Energy Star® qualified. These units are 25% more energy efficient and reduce usage costs in the long haul. Maytag covers their refrigerators with a limited 1-year warranty from the original date of purchase, for parts and labor to correct defects in materials or workmanship.

Maytag Refrigerator Product types available

The refrigerator is one of the most important kitchen appliances and much thought must be put into it before buying one. Several issues, including the budget and amount of available kitchen space, access to electrical outlets and water sources, design, and styling preferences must first be considered.

Once these general issues have been addressed, choices can be narrowed down to the models that will suit design needs.

There are 27 different refrigerator models currently available from the brand. These models include side-by-side, bottom-freezer, French door, and top-freezer refrigerators and are available in many colors.

Side-by-side refrigerators have narrow twin doors for convenient access to fridge contents in tight kitchen spaces. Vertical storage spaces allow a variety of freezer capacity options. Total storage capacities range from 22 to 25 cubic feet.

Bottom Freezer Models

Bottom-freezer models place fresh food at eye level and allow direct access to fresh produce. Freezer compartments either glide-out or swing-out from the fridge body depending on the model. There are 9 models with total capacities ranging from 18.5 to 25.0 cubic feet.

French Door Refrigerators

Although the priciest of the line, French-door refrigerating systems combine the advantages of both the side-by-side and bottom-freezer models. The twin doors fit any kitchen design and the bottom-freezer configuration allows more storage space for fresh goods. Maytag currently has 9 models in the selection with storage capacities ranging from 20 to 25 cubic feet.

Fridge with Top Freezer

Refrigerators with a top-freezer compartment put frozen goods at eye level and are ideal in households where frozen goods are purchased more frequently. The only top-freezer model in the Maytag refrigerator line has a total storage capacity of 21 cubic feet and automatic moisture controls.

The reversible door placement feature allows the fridge door to open either to the left or right depending on the customer’s preference.

All refrigerators are Energy Star® qualified. These units have greater energy efficiencies that translate into greater savings when it comes to energy consumption.

Maytag Refrigerator Buying Information

Maytag offers a limited 1-year warranty from the original date of purchase, for parts and labor to correct defects in materials or workmanship. The warranty is only valid in the United States or Canada and applies only when the unit is used in the country in which it was purchased. The warranty does not apply anywhere else. Extended warranty options are available at additional cost.

Consumer complaints concerning refrigerator relay ignitions have spurred the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to recall about 1.6 million Maytag refrigerator units in March 2009. Electrical failure in the relay, the component that turns the refrigerator’s compressor on, can cause overheating and poses a serious fire hazard.

Other complaints include icemaker breakage and defects, difficulties in maintenance and replacement parts, and some incidents with the company’s customer service department.

GE is an American company that has recently been named one of the largest companies for 2009 by Forbes Magazine. It traces its origins back in 1892 with the merger of Edison General Electric and Thomson-Houston Company. GE came out with its first refrigerator in 1923, but, prior to that, the company has been a leader in innovation, coming out with such inventions as the lightbulb and, later on, turbine jet engines.

The company produces refrigerators categorized into three segments: the GE refrigerators, the GE Profile, and the GE Monogram Refrigerators.

Types of refrigerators

GE refrigerators can come in various models. These include top freezer, bottom freezer, side by side, and compact refrigerators. Top freezer units sport a small freezer compartment on the top portion of the refrigerator, which has its own door and temperature control. This feature lets the freezer compartment to be defrosted independently from the rest of the unit. Bottom freezer refrigerators have the freezer mounted on the bottom.

Side by side refrigerators have two doors that open to the sides from the center. These units are divided into vertical compartments, and shelving may be narrower than regular single door units. Side by side refrigerators can range from 28 to 34 inches in width and depth as well as 66 to 69 inches in height. Just like other types of refrigerators, these units have adjustable bins and shelves.

Compact refrigerators differ from regular units in size. These usually go as tall as your kitchen counter tops and have about 4 to 5 cubic centimeters of storage capacity. Compact refrigerators are often purely fridge, but there are other units that also come with a small freezer compartment on top.

GE refrigerators can also come in two styles — built-in or freestanding. You can use whichever will fit the decor of your kitchen best.

Your choice of what model and style to buy will essentially depend on your kitchen space, storage needs, and how your kitchen is configured.

Top GE refrigerator models

The GE Profile PDSS5NBWLSS 25.3 Cu. Ft. Stainless Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator is among the most popular models from this manufacturer. Despite the hefty price, no one can deny that this is one of the best refrigerator units out on the market today. With a price tag of $1,9000, you can expect a few special features on this side by side unit that you can find in other brands with the same price range. Some of these features include the patented BrightSpace interior with GE Reveal lighting, the multi level Slide n Store basket system which is composed of three full sized baskets for the optimum in storage, and the Condiment Bin and Beverage Rack.

Another top GE model is the French door GE PFSF5NJWBB GE Profile. This bottom door freezer mount is a good mix of classic elegance and GE durability, with its contoured doors and sculptured handles, External Water Dispenser with TurboCool settings, and the Freshness Center.

For the best top freezer GE refrigerator, you can choose the GE GTS18SHS which is one of the smaller units but comes in sophisticated stainless steel, a factory-installed ice maker, and the illuminated Upront Slimline Temperature Controls.

Key features of GE refrigerators

Key features you would typically find in any GE refrigerator include the following:

• climate controls
• custom appearance
• removable freezer baskets, bins, and clear shelving
• self-closing doors

GE models come with the patented ClimateKeeper system, which is a dual evaporator system designed to keep produce safer and fresher for longer periods of time. GE refrigerators are also known for their custom appearance — from plain white to stainless steel finishes that you can choose according to the design and appearance to match the rest of your kitchen. Removable shelving facilitate convenience in food storage and retrieval, and self-closing doors ensure that no cold air is able to seep out, causing you a whole lot of wasted energy.

Unique features the make GE fridge units stand out, on the other hand, include the Gallon door storage, LED lighting, and in-door water filters. Gallon door storage has been designed for the storage of large milk containers that are hard to store in other refrigerators. Consumers can have the option of purchasing GE refrigerators with or without water filtration or ice making systems.

Troubleshooting GE refrigerators

If you are an owner of a GE refrigerator, you may have encountered a few problems as you were using it through the years. Although GE units are known for their durability, dependability, and longevity, problems tend to crop up as your unit gets older. This is where knowledge about a few GE troubleshooting tips may come in handy.

When the refrigerator is not running, check to make sure it is plugged in or properly inserted into the wall outlet. When this does not work, check your home’s circuit breakers to see if electricity is available through the wall outlet where your unit is plugged.

Changes in your unit’s fridge or freezer temperature may require a few hours to take effect. Typically, you need to wait at least 24 hours for your adjustments to take effect.

When the ice maker or water dispenser is not working, check if the water supply is hooked up, and if enough water is being pumped into the compartment. A replacement of the filter cartridge may be needed if ice cubes from your fridge turn out small or hollow.

To make sure that the gasket is in good condition, clean it regularly using a moist piece of washcloth, making sure to remove all the dirt particles and other debris from the gasket folds.

Common complaints with GE refrigerators

Despite the fact that this is a longstanding brand with one of the best reputations in the world, GE refrigerators can still improve in some areas, particularly when it comes to lighting, handles, and water filters. Units from this brand often come with bulky lighting systems which take up a lot of storage space. GE units are also known for loose handles as well as for its water filtration system that takes up as much as a fourth of the space in side by side models.

Samsung is one of the leading brands in consumer electronics today, which is known for its wide array of electronic products. The company was founded in 1938 in Korea by Byung-Chul Lee. Known as Three Stars in Korean, Samsung is popular for its high-tech and stylish home appliance units, refrigerators among them.

Samsung뭩 refrigerators are known for their stylish and classy models, with the units in the pricier range sporting stainless steel, platinum, and black or white finishes with LED displays.

Samsung Refrigerators Key features

Spacious

Most Samsung refrigerators sport twin cooling systems, a chill compartment, as well as vegetable and fruit drawers and shelves that are foldable and made of tempered glass.

Shelves are designed to be moved around to accommodate almost anything. A built-in icemaker, door pockets, as well as extra wine and egg racks are also staple features.

Neat features

Most units sport the multi-flow system apart from the twin cooling system to keep temperatures inside the refrigerators as even as possible.

Some models are also installed with the 2-minute door alarm systems, which alert users if the door is ajar.

High tech

More high-tech units come with stylish LED panels that display ref and freezer temperatures and make a distinctive ‘ping’ sound when touched.

Samsung refrigerator units can be expensive especially those that come in stainless steel finishes, but the flexibility and convenience that large units can provide coupled with the stylish exterior often make these refrigerators worth the money.

Common complaints

A common complaint among Samsung refrigerator users is the freezer malfunction and often loud noises when the machine is running. The icemaker is typically one feature that likes to make noise and can be slower than other brands when it comes to making ice.

Although this may not be a deal breaker to some users, not having ice when they need can be very inconvenient. The display also only shows information for no more than 5 seconds, after which it goes off; this can be quite inconvenient for users who want to see the real freezer and refrigerator temperature without having to push a button every 5 seconds.

Another complaint among users is the lack of space for standard-sized bottles and cans.

Samsung Refrigerator Product types available

Samsung makes various models of side-by-side, bottom mount, and archive refrigerators. Samsung뭩 side-by-side units all come with the Energy Star seal and range in size from 17 to 24 cu. ft. units with external ice and water dispensers.

A typical example of a Samsung side-by-side unit is the RFG297AARS, which has 28.5 cu. ft. storage capacity and is a stainless steel bottom mount freezer. The unit sports a twin cooling plus system, surround air flow, slide-out and tempered glass shelving, and 2 humidity controlled crispers.

It also has an internal LED lighting encased in a stylish stainless steel exterior with equally stylish door handles. Space is the main advantage with this unit, but others may find having to open both doors to open the deli drawer a little bit cumbersome.

Samsung Freezer Units

Samsung뭩 bottom freezer units are designed with 1 vertical door on top and the freezer at the bottom. Bottom freezer units tend to have lesser storage capacities than other models, but they make up for this with the convenience and ease of storage.

Units usually have a capacity that ranges from 18.7 to 21 cu. ft. Most units may come with side-by-side or one-door designs while sporting a bottom freezer. A typical example of this is the RF266ABWP/XAA, which has 25.8 cu. ft. storage space and comes in white finish.

This model sports 2 humidity-controlled crispers, an internal chilled water dispenser, a water filter, an automatic ice maker, a freezer drawer, and a door alarm.

Samsung French Door Refrigerators

The brand뭩 French door refrigerators fuse the side-by-side with the bottom freezer models, with the side-by-side compartments on top and the freezer at the bottom.

Models sport the twin cooling system, a patented compression system that is designed to cool the refrigerator and freezer separately, maintaining a constant temperature at all times and keeping food fresher longer.

Some French door units have the power cool option that lets users cool or freeze food in a shorter period of time. One drawback to the French door range of refrigerators is that not all of them are Energy Star compliant. The Samsung RFG297AARS, which is a freestanding French style unit, is a good example of this.

The model sports a color stainless steel exterior and internal lighting that is as bright as any refrigerator internal lighting system can provide. It also has an open door alarm for those who tend to leave the door open longer than necessary.

Common complaints include not being able to use the ice maker when the right door is open. Units in this range can be usually custom-installed to match existing cabinetry.

Four door refrigerator

A popular type of Samsung refrigerator is the 4-door refrigerator, although this model’s design does not look like that of any conventional refrigerator.

Samsung produces a total of 4 models, all of which come with the Energy Star seal. The 4-door units have separate fans for each compartment to prevent odors from mixing, and they also sport the open door alarm found in other models.

Samsung 4-door units come with 2 main doors and 2 smaller doors at the bottom. The smaller bottom drawers can be individually set according to the desired humidity and temperature to act as compartments for specific types of food.

To do these, users can select from either the Arctic Fresh Zone or the Fresh Select Zone modes. The former has a range of minus 14 to 35 degrees, compared to the 5 degrees in most freezers.

The Fresh Select Zone, on the other hand, gives the user a range of 23 to 41 degrees compared to standard refrigerators that provide a range of 35 to 45 degrees.

A common reason why double doors are a hit is that they do not take up much space when opened, especially because users only tend to open one door at a time. Users usually make use of the bottom compartments as freezers or refrigerator compartments.

LG is a South Korean company founded in the late 1940s. Originally founded as Goldstar in 1958, the company became known as Lucky-Goldstar until the 70s.

The brand changed its name from Lucky-Goldstar to the shorter, easier to remember LG and is popular in South Korea for being a cheaper and local alternative to other electronics giants like Maytag, Whirlpool, and Kenmore.

However, LG has started to compete with these brands in recent years, adding a few innovations and high-tech features that rival those of other brands, releasing the world뭩 first internet refrigerator in 2000 and the world뭩 first Internet washing machine in 2001.

LG is also a trusted brand when it comes to television and mobile handsets. The company manufactures a line of refrigerators through its electronics division.

LG Refrigerators Key features

Certain features make LG unique among its competitors. A few of the features that have been shown to generate favorable nods from customers include the multi-airflow system, jet freezer drawers, ice beam cooling, Optichill drawer, and Optibin crispers.

Multi Air Flow

The multi-airflow system is unique to LG, despite the fact that other brands seem to copy this feature. This is because LG has installed air vents in the refrigerator shelves to keep the temperature inside the unit as constant as possible.

This is coupled with the Ice Beam Cooling feature in the frozen foods section in LG뭩 side-by-side models, which come with added cool air vents for uniform cool temperatures.

Jet Freezer

Jet freezer drawers attract customers for their double freezing time. The units have a separate drawer inside the freezer meant for rapid freezing to seal in freshness in half the time.

Energy Star

Most LG models also now sport the Energy Star seal, which is fast becoming the norm in the appliance industry. Because units that have this seal consume 15% less energy, they can really help users save on energy bills.

LG Refrigerator Product types available

The company produces a number of side-by-side, bottom freezer, and French door refrigerators. The side-by-side units offer ample space, are energy efficient, and produce less noise compared to other units in the same brand.

Side by side

A typical example of a popular side-by-side LG refrigerator is the LG LSC26905TT. This particular refrigerator unit has 26 cu. ft. storage space, is a side-by-side refrigerator, and has external water dispenser that comes in titanium finish.

This model comes with a tall water dispenser, slide-out spill protector glass shelving, easy-to-read LED displays, and door baskets with adjustable gallon size. It is also one of the quietest of the LG models.

The only consumer complaint with this model is that the freezers of some units start encountering problems after just a year of use.

Expensive Frigidaire Refrigerator

A more expensive unit is the LG LSC27991TT, which is a 26.2 cu.ft. side-by-side refrigerator with LCD TV. At over $3,000, it comes in a titanium finish and an LCD TV. The unit is worth its price with all the features that this model sports — from the 26.4 cubic foot capacity to the tilting freezer door bins. It does come with a few other features that most homeowners can do without. As expected, the typical consumer complaint with this model is usually the cost.

Fridge Freezer

Another good option is the LG LFX21960, a 20.5 cu. ft. bottom freezer refrigerator that comes with French doors. Customers like this model뭩 lay-out because it allows them ample space to store fresh produce in the top section and all their frozen food in the bottom.

The unit also comes with spill-proof glass shelving and SmoothTouch external LCD controls that monitor freezer and refrigerator temperatures along with Optibin Crispers and a Durabase Freezer Drawer. However, this model is often plagued with various complaints concerning users who are not happy about the icemaker.

Some users report that the icemaker stops working after 5 months of use. There has also been reports concerning problems with the unit’s defrost gasket.

Some are also complaining that the model cannot be fitted inside preexisting cabinets in the kitchen despite the company뭩 claim that it can.

Popular French door units

Another popular French door unit is the LG LFC23760ST< which is 22.6 cu. ft. stainless steel, French door, bottom freezer refrigerator. It boasts of a stylish, stainless steel exterior, multi-air floor cooling system, 2 humidity crispers, a door alarm, and a Lodecibel quiet operation.

It also has ample interior space even inside the fridge, with the interior also sporting removable, tempered glass shelving. The drawback is the lack of ample space for tall items such as wine bottles.

Common problems include too cool freezer temperatures that freeze everything into solid ice and non-functional freezer compartment doors and faulty hinges. However, priced at a little over $1,000, the model is a good buy for its features and its stylish look.

Another popular model is the LG LMX25981, which is a 25 cu. ft. French door refrigerator with self-contained ice system and 2 bottom freezer drawers.

It also has the tallest water dispenser ever to be placed in a refrigerator unit standing at 12 inches. The model is stylish, with recessed LED lighting, hidden hinges, and curved contours. The unit뭩 interior also differs from other LG units with the ice shelf relocated to the door, freeing up the entire top shelf.

Its 4 compartment crisper system allows for more versatility in arranging beverages, with an extra container for more bottles or cans.

The LG LSC27926ST is a side-by-side model that is known for its ample space. With its wheels, there is no worry about moving the unit from one room to another.

It also keeps its surface pristine and smudge free with an anti-fingerprint coating. Typical complaints usually heard from customers involve the icemaker, which can be too noisy in some units.

Common complaints

Common complaints with LG refrigerator units are the early malfunctions of the built-in ice maker, which, in some cases bails out way before the warranty on the unit expires.

Customers can contact the LG customer service center for support whenever any problem with their purchase arises.

Frigidaire is one of the most trusted and oldest brands of refrigerators still being sold today. Known for its family-friendly and energy-efficient refrigerators, Frigidaire started off as the Guardian Frigerator Company in 1916 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The company pioneered various innovations in the refrigerator, coming up with the first self-contained refrigerator in the same year. The company name was changed in 1918 after it landed the founder of General Motors as one of its investors.

It would then change hands several more times during the course of its history. But 60 or so years after that, the company was acquired by White Consolidated industries, owner of White Westinghouse refrigerators. Ownership of the company then went to Electrolux in 1986.

Known as the 57 Chevy of the Refrigerator world, the Frigidaire brand is known for durability and lasting endurance. Even old and antique models can still be made to work today.

The company is also one of the leading pioneers in the production of washing machines, air conditioners, electric ranges, and the country뭩 first frost-free chest freezer.

Frigidaire is especially known for its side-by-side and top freezer models, which can be custom built to match the decor in the kitchen.

Frigidaire Refrigerators Key features

There are certain features that make this brand different from the rest. The top 5 features that make Frigidaire one of the most popular include its EasyCare Genuine Stainless Steel, Transition Lighting, Tile Out Wire Door Shelves, PureAir Filtration system, and Sliding SmartFit SpillSafe Shelves.

Easycare

The brand뭩 units with the EasyCare Genuine Stainless Steel do not face of the problem of unsightly smudges because the units are coated with an anti-smudge material to keep the surface shiny and pristine.

Accidental spills are eliminated with the clear shelves which are adjustable to allow for more room when needed.

Pure Air

Yet another feature is the PureAir Filtration System which eliminates bad odors from mingling with the food or uncovered drinks via a built-in and replaceable charcoal and baking soda filter.

Most Frigidaire units also come with the Tile Out Wire Door Shelves, which allow users to store taller items in the door of the unit without worrying that they뭠l the items will come flying out the moment they open the door.

Transition Lighting

Finally, Frigidaire has installed Transition Lighting in its units, which provides the right amount of light based on the exterior ambient lighting, allowing the eyes to adjust accordingly.

Energy Star

With the concerns on energy efficiency, the company is keeping up with the green movement by ensuring that most of its units sport the Energy Star certification.

This means modern Frigidaire units now run on 15% less energy than other brands that are not Energy Star certified.

Frigidaire Refrigerators Product types

The refrigerators produced by Frigidaire belong to two kinds: the side-by-side and the top freezer models, which cost from around $700 to $2,000 a unit.

The company also produces compact or mini-fridges as well as commercial freezers.

Frigidaire Top Shelf Refrigeration

Top shelf units come in stainless steel finishes or in white or beige exterior finishes. A typical example of the top shelf unit is the Frigidaire 17 Cubic Foot White Top Mount Refrigerator — the FRT17G4BW — which comes with the customary humidity-controlled crispers, sliding glass shelves, adjustable bins, static condenser, a freezer with two fixed door racks, a full-width shelf, and an optional ice maker.

The unit is preferred by most customers for its adjustable shelves and minimum noise. It has ample shelving for tall items, it is easy to clean, and the controls are very easy to manipulate and change. Another pro is the secure Kenmore lock and the fact that the fridge door can be closed tightly shut.

Frigidaire Professional Series Refrigerators

Another fitting example for a popular Frigidaire refrigerator is the Frigidaire Professional Series All Refrigerator In Stainless Steel — the PLRU1778ES.

Although more expensive than the usual Frigidaire unit, this unit comes in stylish stainless steel which is designed to match the stainless steel exteriors of the unit’s stainless steel freezer.

A common complaint with this unit is the relatively small capacity for such a price. Another drawback is that it can be louder than most refrigerators when running. However, most customers appreciate the negative air pressure automatic door closing.

Frigidaire Side by side Refrigeration

A good example of a side-by-side model that has gained praise from users is the Frigidaire 26.0 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Thru-the-Door Ice and Water — the stainless steel FRS6R5ESB.

This is a sleek side-by-side unit that comes with top-mounted temperature controls, 3 SpillSafe Shelves, humidity control, clear deli drawer, crisper, and dairy door, just to name a few. Another perk is its ultrasoft handle.

Yet another side-by-side model from Frigidaire is the Frigidaire FSC23F7D (22.6 cu. ft.) Side-by-Side Refrigerator, which contains ample space but may come with a higher level of noise than some Frigidaire units.

However, it has the staple SpillSafe glass shelving, clear crispers, and one added perk, the through-the-door ice and water dispenser. It also has a clear compartment for storing meat, 2-liter door bins, a removable dairy compartment, and ample freezer space.

This unit also has dual-level lighting. Some customers, however, have complained of a very short working life; they estimate that the unit only lasts for about 4 years with continuous everyday use. In worst cases, some units bog down after 1 year or after the expiration of the warranty.

For a stylish side-by-side model, customers have the option of using the Frigidaire PHS69EHS in stainless steel. It comes with extra accessories like glass doors, clear bins, extra shelving, and digital control display.

The unit comes in stainless steel which is a stylish addition to any kitchen. However, like most Frigidaire units, it can be loud especially at night. The unit is big, which makes looking for ample storage space tricky especially among users with small kitchens.

The unit comes with anti-smudge coating to prevent unsightly fingerprint smudges. Because of its stainless steel finish, this refrigerator is more expensive than other brands.

Its selling price is around $1,500, which is a bit hefty as compared with other units that cost around $400 and upwards.

The company has been a pioneer innovator in the refrigeration industry, creating a number of industry-firsts that are now standards. Amana is known for making the first upright freezer for home use.

Following in the spirit of innovation, the company also developed and manufactured one of the first side-by-side refrigerators, one of the most popular types of refrigerators in the market today.

In 2001, Amana was acquired by Maytag, which was later acquired by Whirlpool in 2006. With over 70 years of experience in researching, developing, designing, and manufacturing refrigerators, Amana has become one of the leading makers of refrigerators.

Amana Refrigerators Key features

Energy Star compliant — Some of the refrigerators manufactured by Amana are Energy Star qualified, which means that they not only comply with federal energy efficiency standards, but they exceed these standards by 15%.

Consumers who buy Energy Star compliant refrigerators won’t have to worry too much about their bills going overboard or the environment suffering just to keep their goods cold.

EasyFill — Amana refrigerators with the Easy Fill system can enjoy fresh, filtered, and cold water from the internal water dispenser. Because the dispenser is internally mounted, consumers can have peace of mind knowing that the dispenser won’t act up due to constantly changing temperatures.

Chef’s Pantry Drawer — The Temperature Controlled Chef’s Pantry Drawer is a compartment in these units that can have a separate temperature level from the rest of the refrigerator.

This feature allows users to set the drawer five degrees Fahrenheit cooler than the rest of the refrigerator, which helps keep food fresh without having to crank down the thermostat for the entire fridge.

Temp Assure — The Temp Assure Freshness Controls are a feature that makes getting the right temperature a cinch. Users won’t have to continually fiddle around with the control just to get the optimal temperature settings.
