Bottom Freezer Refrigerator Reviews

There are several types of refrigerators, and one of them are bottom freezers. They do not differ that much from the conventional or the more popular top freezer refrigerators. The main difference is that, in a bottom freezer, the freezer is placed at the bottom of the refrigerator instead of the top. You can think of bottom freezers as just reversing the positions, the fresh food compartment is at the top, and, as you guessed, the freezer is at the bottom.

You can find several configurations of the same. You have bottom freezers that have single doors or French doors for the fresh food compartment. For the freezer access, you have drawer designs where you pull the freezer compartment out, and you also have hinge-door types like your traditional two-door top freezers.

Why should you get a bottom freezer?

There are several reasons, but mostly it depends on the lifestyle. If you’re the kind who doesn’t use the freezer that much and always frequent the fresh food compartment, then bottom freezers are for you. Since the fresh food compartment is at eye level, you have easier access to your food. If you’re a vegetarian or somebody who just lives for the take out or microwaved meals, then getting a bottom freezer is not a bad idea. Because the food that you always eat is within easy reach, people find bottom freezer models more convenient.

When it comes to convenience, it would depend on what part of the fridge you always raid. If you stay on the fresh food compartment, that means you don’t need to bend over to get a good view and get the food that you need. On the downside, you would have to bend over to get to the freezer compartment. So, you would have to compromise on that when you’re loading stuff on the freezer. But the good thing about bottom freezers is that these are designed like drawers, so you don’t need to worry about stuff falling off the freezer, as compared with top freezers. You will also get a good view of the contents of the freezer because of this drawer design.

Another advantage to bottom freezers is energy efficiency. Since there are separate doors for the freezer and the fresh food compartment, you can leave the freezer closed when you’re not accessing it. It has the same virtues as two-door refrigerators since you only let the cold out from the compartment that you need to access.

One thing you have to note about bottom freezers is that these models are more expensive as compared with top freezer models. So, there is a price to pay for the convenience that you’ll get with bottom freezers.

There really isn’t much difference in bottom freezers. The key thing is the convenience that it brings for a certain group of people with a certain set of preferences in their food storage. If you go to the fresh food section more frequently than you access your freezer, then a bottom freezer model is more suitable for your needs.
