Pros
- lack of usable freezer space
- magnets don’t stick to the front

Cons
- shelving and bins removable for easier cleaning shelves
- height is easily adjusted quiet

The GE Profile refrigerator is an attractive full-size side-by-side refrigerator that still functions well after more than five years. The white exterior surfaces are easy to clean, and the glass interior shelving (in the refrigerator section) are untextured which makes cleanup of the inevitable messes simple.

The shelves and bins in both the refrigerator and the freezer section are removable. All the main shelving, and most of the shelves/bins in the doors can be moved to adjust the height. The ice maker makes ice quickly enough for a family of four in hot dry Arizona. Inside the freezer section the two of wire bins pull out. However, access to items in the freezer section seems more difficult.

The freezer section is significantly narrower than the refrigerator and requires a lot of stacking to utilize the space. Perhaps another shelf would improve the usability. A consumer should be aware that the door bins protrude slightly into area occupied by the main shelving, so it is fairly easy to load up the refrigerator and find that it doesn’t quite close well enough to seal the doors. The two biggest complaints about the refrigerator is that the ice makes no longer feeds ice through the door reliably. (The auger that moves the ice has broken.)

The other is more of a persistent annoyance: the refrigerator doors, which are the only part showing in our installation, have no metal, and magnets don’t stick. With a young child in the house this has eliminated a normally convenient location to post pictures and artwork.

Pros
- Fits into narrow spaces.
- Ice/water in the door.

Cons
- Stainless steel is hard to clean.
- Interior space poorly laid out.

The GE Profile refrigerator line is a middle to upper end refrigerator in the GE lineup. You may purchase them in Stainless Steel or a variety of colors. The most popular version is a stainless steel, side by side, which is what we purchased.

Our unit is a 23 cubic foot model and in terms of overall dimensions, is surprisingly narrow and can be accommodated in almost any width opening. In terms of height, it is 69 inches and will easily fit under both 18 inch and 24 inch cabinets. As for depth, it comes out 29 inches form the wall and is able to fit almost flush. Thus, it will fit in most kitchens. The bad news though, is that in order to fir into most spaces, the interior space is marginal for a 23 cubic foot refrigerator. It feels more like a 20-21 cubic foot model.

In terms of features, the Profile sits on rollers so that it is easy to level and it can be easily rolled out from the wall in order to clean under. On the outside, the refrigerator comes, as do most side by sides with both ice and water in the door, but the Profile takes it to a new level.

The user can choose both cubed and crushed ice and GE now has a built in “Precise Fill” mode. With Precise Fill, the user can choose how many ounces of water they wish in their glass by pushing a button and the refrigerator will fill to the predetermined level. There is also a door alarm and a quick ice button on the door.

Inside, there are numerous features, including a digital thermostat so you can set the exact freezer and refirgerator temperatures, a quick thaw /express chill drawer and a shelf that is slit in two, so the user can slide one half of the shelf under the other, thus opening up more space for tall objects. As with most refirgerators, the GE Profile has space in the door for gallon jugs and two liter bottles.

GE has also built in a salad crisper with an adjustable humidity control so that the user can adjust the humidty in the drawer to suit the contents. Finally, as with almost all refrigerators these days, there is a water line for the automatic ice maker.

A nice feature of the water line is that it runs through an internal filter to help filter out the the poor taste of most tap water. The filter by the way is easily accessible so that when its time to change it, it takes only seconds. The door panel will even tell the user when it’s time to change the filter.
